We’ve done !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! in the past, today we’re analyzing the humble front wiper! Show us the best, worst, or most interesting ones you’ve seen around the automotive world, from the most esoteric to the most common.

Kinja'd!!!

The W210 and earlier Benz had the funky, somewhat unreliable ‘migrating’ single wiper. Weird, seemingly without rhyme or reason

Kinja'd!!!

A long, low windshield demands more wipers—three for the FJ Cruiser in particular!

So what do you think, Oppo?

What are the best/worst/most distinctive windshield wipers in the automotive world?

BEHOLD THE TWIN REAR WIPERED CAMRY

Kinja'd!!!

Also, did you know the center wiper on an FJ is a smaller size than the other two? TMYK!

How about hidden when they’re not in use? I think they tried to use that as a big selling point? Probably helped for wind noise.

Quite a technological advancement! I’m sure that was the biggest innovation that Oldsmobile made after their ‘Rocket V8'. (I kid, but GM was generally total and utter malaise all through the ‘80s and even ‘90s. I’m sorry, but tucked wipers are not an advertising point.) Thanks for bringing them up, though, that’s the kind of nonsense that I love to see here on Design Details!

THAT’S A REAR WIPER TAKE YOUR DAMNED REAR WIPERS AND LEAVE ;)

Now that ’s an interesting factual! Must be a pain for FJ owners who expect them all to be the same!

I had no idea! Of course the Type 1 E-Types did too, but it seems like a trend among old British roadsters now!

The Subaru Tribeca. not only do you get that horrible design, but you also get wiper blades that are specific to Subaru and to only the Tribeca. They also cost $40 a piece from the dealer and no aftermarket carries them.

That seems incredibly annoying, FJ owners must just have single ten inch wipers lying around the garage waiting for it to rain again...

Top mounted wiper!

It's the smallest production car in the world though, so it has a bit of an excuse. xP

It certainly works better than the one on the Clarkson P45!

I nearly forgot about this one too...

Kinja'd!!!

The Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse (W124) had a single wiper which covered the whole screen. German engineering at its finest!

Well that’s the same general idea behind the W210 wiper as well, the odd rectangular swipe pattern which (if I recall correctly) used a highly expensive and complex ‘monkey-gear’ contraption which was difficult to mend once it broke.
